The Weather in Vendée

The truth about the weather in Vendée

I have lived in the Vendee for 8 years and I have been holidaying here for 25 years. If we take the period from mid-June to the end of August (10 weeks), then the following is an honest account of the weather:

Good summer: hot and sunny 80% time.

Average summer: hot and sunny 70% time.

Bad summer, eg. 2011: hot and sunny 40% time

If you rent a gîte for 1 week you could be unlucky, but the odds are certainly in your favour. If you were to book for two weeks, then it is very unlikely that you will be disappointed. We can't guarantee the weather, but the chances are that you will have good weather during your stay. The summer weather is usually reliably good,  but the winter months are similar to the UK.

Vendee is the nearest location to the UK with good weather from May to September.

The image above shows the average number of sunshine hours in the various regions of France. You can see that the Vendee has a comparable number of sunshine hours to the South of France.

Vendee is said to have a micro-climate and enjoys a similar weather in the summer months to the Mediterranean coast, including the Cote d'Azur.
